In the 2016 legislative session Rep. Soliday authored House Enrolled Act 1001, a bill that began a meaningful discussion about how we fund infrastructure in the state of Indiana. The final bill gave significant one-time funding to cities and towns, set up the Community Crossings grant program that was immediately implemented and gave more than 70 communities the ability to adopt a wheel tax or increase their existing tax to fund infrastructure improvements.
“I can’t say enough about Rep. Soliday’s leadership on the crisis of how we fund critical Hoosier infrastructure. He is a strong advocate for local government and a skilled coalition builder. Rep. Soliday entered the 2016 legislative session with a clear, data driven mission. Cities and towns across the state are poised to address significant infrastructure projects that will impact the quality of life in their communities, thanks in large part to the determination of Rep. Soliday,” said IACT Executive Director and CEO Matt Greller.
“I remain dedicated and attentive to our infrastructure needs in the Hoosier state,” Soliday said. “Roads and bridges play a key role in keeping our local economy moving forward, and I will continue to do my very best to find responsible, long-term funding solutions for our state’s roads next session.”
The IACT Board of Directors voted to honor Rep. Soliday during their August meeting. This is the sixth year the organization has presented a Legislator of the Year award.
The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) is a coalition of municipal officials who seek to improve the quality of life in Indiana through effective government, and is a member of the National League of Cities. Founded in 1891, IACT is one of the oldest state municipal organizations in the country, with 470 cities and towns as members. IACT advocates for municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good government through education, training and leadership.
