Goshen Deputy Mayor Mark Brinson Wins Ivan H. Brinegar Award

French Lick – Mark Brinson, Goshen deputy mayor, received the 2023 Ivan H. Brinegar Municipal Management Award from Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim). Brinson received the award on August 23 during the Presidents’ Reception at the 2023 Aim Ideas Summit in French Lick.

Nominated by former Goshen Mayor Jeremy Stutsman, Brinson is a lifelong resident of Indiana, He has been among the committed, visionary leaders helping Elkhart County, and the cities of Elkhart and Goshen steadily grow and thrive for the last four decades. Throughout his career he has honed and demonstrated broad expertise in land use planning, economic development, redevelopment, transportation planning, as well as building inspections and code enforcement, have left a lasting imprint.

Among his many accomplishments, Brinson oversaw a three-year strategic initiative to increase Goshen’s housing stock. As a result of his skillful leadership, Goshen will realize an additional 1,900 affordable workforce, and market rate housing units, a 14% increase.

“I have known Mark Brinson for many years,” said Aim CEO Matt Greller. “His ability to persevere and thrive amid multiple administrations and through multiple levels of Elkhart County government is a fascinating testament to his outstanding talent, leadership, and commitment to the success of the entire area.”

The Ivan H. Brinegar Municipal Management Award is presented to an appointed municipal official with a minimum of 10 years of city or town service who displays strong leadership, contributions to the community, and serves as a role model to citizens and other municipal officials.

In its 47th year, the Aim Annual Awards program, presented by Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors LLC, recognizes communities and individuals in municipal government for excellence and outstanding achievement. A seven-member panel of qualified judges selected this year’s winners from a competitive field of nominees from around the state.
