Evansville Mayor takes Home Russell G. Lloyd Distinguished Service Award Named for Former Evansville Mayor of the Same Name

by Aim Admin | Aug 31, 2023 | Awards, Legislators, Media, Members, Press Release

French Lick – Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke received the 2023 Russell G. Lloyd Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim). Winnecke was presented the award on August 23 during the Presidents’ Reception at the 2023 Aim Ideas Summit.

Evansville controller Russell G. Lloyd, Jr., the award’s namesake, himself a former Evansville mayor, presented Mayor Winnecke with the award during the reception. He noted Mayor Winnecke’s numerous projects and initiatives in the areas of economic development, community development, quality of place, and most recently mental health and addiction treatment, among the mayor’s many accomplishments. Winnecke’s service to Aim was also highlighted during the presentation, remarking on his time as the association’s president, his commitment to legislative advocacy, and concern for his fellow municipal officials.

“The DSA is Aim’s highest honor. I could not be happier to see Mayor Winnecke honored for his service to Evansville and Aim. He has been an amazing mentor, friend, resource, and humble visionary,” said Aim CEO Matt Greller.

It was an unprecedented year for the DSA. Judges reached a tie decision and elected to honor both Mayor Winnecke and Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb. Both mayors took office in 2012 and will leave office later this year having not sought reelection for a fourth term.

The Russell G. Lloyd Distinguished Service Award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to local government. Nominees for this prestigious award must display accomplishments beyond their community, including contribution to Aim and public service, leadership, and personal initiative.

In its 47th year, the Aim Annual Awards program, presented by Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors LLC, recognizes communities and individuals in municipal government for excellence and outstanding achievement. A seven-member panel of qualified judges selected this year’s winners from a competitive field of nominees from around the state.
