Whether or not you are familiar with ADA and Title VI, being Coordinator requires particular mastery of the details these two highly-detailed bodies of legislation. The core of this workshop will rest on an understanding of principles fundamental to these programs. For example, why should communities care about accessibility? And what is rightly considered a disability? It will further include a discussion on deciding who should be the ADA Coordinator for a given municipality or organization, based on applicable skills and experience. Finally, it will cover the specifics of several key policies municipal coordinators frequently apply, including nondiscrimination policy requirements, complaint/grievance procedures and recordkeeping requirements, and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations, and the scope of their application in a municipal context.
