Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness and La Porte Mayor Blair Milo shared the benefits of a long-term, data-driven road funding plan March 14 at the Indiana Statehouse.

The mayors testified in front of two key Indiana Senate committees. House Bill 1002 comes at a critical time for local governments with new data showing they face a statewide need of nearly $1 billion.

The comprehensive plan ensures user fees motorists pay at the pump go toward road improvements and provides new funds for a local infrastructure grant program called Community Crossings.

Negotiations on the proposal are expected to last until late April.
