FRENCH LICK – Phyllis Whitright, Clerk-Treasurer of Decatur, received the 2022 Financial Management Award from Aim (Accelerate Indiana Municipalities). Whitright received the award on November 3 during the Presidents’ Reception at the 2022 Aim Ideas Summit in French Lick. The Financial Management Award is given to a finance officer or administrator who has made outstanding achievements in fiscal management, financial recording, and leadership in public service.

Whitright has served as Decatur’s Clerk-Treasurer since 1997. Her work ethic, integrity, skill, good nature, attention to detail, and her dedication to city government were all highlighted in her nomination. Sewer improvements, police station, city hall, park and trail upgrades, and more were made possible due to Whitright’s knowledge of grants, budgeting and proper reporting.

Aim CEO Matt Greller noted, “Strong financial management isn’t just desired, it’s critical. Cities and towns need to do so much, above and beyond making the nuts and bolts of governance work. For a community to invest in quality of place projects that retain and attract new residents, it all starts with a fiscal officer who knows how to navigate with the level of expertise and commitment of Phyllis Whitright.”

In its 46th year, the Aim Annual Awards program, presented by Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors LLC, recognizes communities and individuals in municipal government for excellence and outstanding achievement. A seven-member panel of qualified judges selected this year’s winners from a competitive field of nominees from around the state.
