Elevating Engineering Design Services through the VR Experience

In the water resource industry, translating a blueprint, or even a two- or three-dimensional image to what an operator or utility manager may actually be dealing with for the next 20 years can look very different.

As part of Commonwealth Engineers’ design process, 3D virtual walkthroughs of proposed facilities are often developed to ensure client expectations are met. In support of the preliminary design submittal, along with the traditional 2D plan sheet assemblies, we can send our clients a website link to the 3D virtual walkthrough that allows them to navigate the proposed space as if they were walking the facility in person. Even better, it can be done at any time, not just at contractual milestones.

“The virtual walkthrough videos provided by Commonwealth have been a great asset when giving presentations to members of our City Council and Board of Public Works and Safety. They have also been very helpful in explaining how the new facility will operate and how the process works to our current WWTP operators and staff.” – Nicholas Dezelan, Wastewater Utility Manager, City of Greenfield

“When a client hires an engineer, it is often a leap of faith,” says Commonwealth President Al Stong. “Commonwealth takes seriously the trust given to us, and we are dedicated to helping our clients make the most informed decisions, ensuring a product which will work best for them. Virtual Reality as part of our workflow is just another tool to help us in this endeavor.”
